[Financial News]"Is this an emergency? I will ask you questions. If the answer is yes, please press the dial button twice; if no, press it once."A police officer’s intuition saved a victim of illegal filming after he did not ignore a silent call where only the sound of dial buttons could be heard.
According to Busanjin Police Station in Busan, at around 8 a.m. on the 2nd, Seomyeon Police District received a directive from the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency’s control center to check a call where only the sound of dial buttons was audible. Police Constable Kim from Seomyeon Police District contacted the caller, but again, only dial button sounds came through the phone.
Despite repeated questions, there was no verbal response. Sensing that the caller was in a dangerous situation, Police Constable Kim said, "I will ask you questions. If the answer is yes, press the dial button twice; if no, press it once." He then asked, "Is this an emergency?", "Is there a man next to you?", and "Are you in a motel?" The caller pressed the dial button twice for each question.
Police Constable Kim’s quick thinking also helped officers at the scene locate the caller. At the time, the police were tracking the caller’s location via mobile phone and searching the area, but had difficulty pinpointing the exact place.
Police Constable Kim then informed the caller via text message that it was possible to report to the 112 Police Emergency Number by SMS, and asked for the address and room number of the motel. The police were then able to identify the precise location, rescue the caller, and arrest the suspect of illegal filming at the scene.
Seo Soo-jin, head of the Crime Prevention and Response Division at Busanjin Police Station, stated, "We will continue to strengthen our response system to ensure that we do not miss even the smallest signals from callers."
