[Financial News] Celebrating its 80th anniversary, the National Museum of Korea has reached a milestone of 100 million cumulative visitors since its opening.
As of the end of last month, the National Museum of Korea reported that its total number of visitors since opening has reached 100,669,308.
According to the data, the annual number of visitors this year stands at 5,814,265, and it is expected to surpass 6 million before the end of the year. This would mark the highest annual attendance in the museum’s 80-year history.
With its current visitor numbers, the National Museum of Korea now ranks among the top five museums in the world. Compared to its opening in December 1945, the number of visitors has increased about 46 times, its collection has grown ninefold, and its facility size has expanded 21 times.
A representative from the National Museum of Korea noted, "This means that, on average, every Korean has visited the museum more than twice," adding, "The National Museum has become deeply embedded in the cultural life of the people." The representative also stated, "The National Museum of Korea is on the verge of surpassing 6 million annual visitors as the center of cultural enjoyment for the nation."
Yu Hongjun, Director of the National Museum of Korea, emphasized, "The 80 years of the National Museum have been a journey of preserving and rediscovering the essence of our culture and sharing its value with both the public and the world." He added, "As the heart of Korean culture, we will continue to prepare for the next 100 years."
Meanwhile, K-goods from the National Museum of Korea have continued to sell out. The craze sparked by the 'Magpie Tiger Badge' featuring the magpie and tiger from Netflix’s 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' has led to new products such as the Gold Crown Earrings, Gonryongpo Beach Towel, and Gat Cup all selling out this year. For foreigners, K-goods are regarded as treasures.
