[Financial News] Sandwich franchise Subway has issued an official apology and announced a compensation plan regarding quality issues with its recently released Subway Limited Edition Lobster Plate, which was offered as part of a limited-time event.
On the 4th, Subway posted an apology on its official website, stating, "Some of the Subway Limited Edition Lobster Plates distributed as gifts from November 18 to 24 were found to have defects." The company added, "We sincerely apologize for any concern this has caused our customers."
The announcement continued, "The plate giveaway has been discontinued, and we ask customers to stop using the plates." Subway added, "As an expression of our apology, customers who purchased a Lobster Sandwich or Lobster & Shrimp Sandwich during the promotion period and received a plate will be given a Subway Sandwich Mobile Gift Certificate worth 8,000 won."
Customers who received the Subway Limited Edition Lobster Plate can claim a mobile gift certificate worth 8,000 won via a link on Subway's official website. Applications will be accepted from the 9th to the 22nd.
The controversy over the quality of Subway's promotional item spread on Social Networking Service (SNS) on the 23rd of last month. One customer who used the plate warned, "After just one wash, all the images disappeared," and added, "I'm worried the ink might mix with the food. Don't use the plate for eating."
As the controversy grew, online users criticized, saying, "Even if it's a freebie, this is too much," "It's not even disposable..." and "What happened to quality control?"
Encouraging customers to apply for compensation, Subway stated, "We will strive to become a better brand for our customers."
