President Lee Meets with IOC President...“Hopes for Continued Interest in Korea’s Sports Development”

President Lee Jae Myung meets with Kirsty Coventry, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), at the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea in Yongsan on the 3rd.

President Lee Jae Myung welcomed Kirsty Coventry, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), to the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea in Yongsan on the 3rd, expressing, “On behalf of the Korean people, I warmly welcome you,” and emphasized his commitment to cooperation between the IOC and the advancement of Korean sports.
In his opening remarks, President Lee stated, “First of all, I would like to welcome you to Korea on behalf of our people. The Korean people feel a strong sense of closeness to the IOC.
” He added, “I want to express my full support for your efforts to advance global sports. ” Referring to President Coventry’s career and leadership, Lee said, “I also support your remarkable journey of setting new records in life.
As you are expected to lead the IOC for quite some time, I hope you will continue your efforts for the development of global sports, and I kindly ask for your interest and support in fostering and advancing sports in Korea. ” He also remarked with a smile, “Meeting you today gives me the sense that the development of global sports will accelerate even further.
” Also present at the meeting from the Presidential Office were Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young, and Senior Secretary for Social Affairs Jinyoung Moon.
In her response, President Coventry expressed her gratitude for the meeting with President Lee, stating, “I am deeply impressed by your active engagement both in Korea and internationally since taking office.
” She also cited Korea’s experience hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics and the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games (Gangwon 2024), describing them as “highly successful,” and emphasized that there will be many opportunities for further cooperation between the international sports community and Korea.
