On this day, Jang submitted a complaint at the SMPA’s civil service office against Mr. A, a staff member of an opposition lawmaker’s office, who had accused him of quasi-forcible molestation. He also filed complaints and accusations against Mr. A’s then-boyfriend, Mr. B, for false accusation, assault, and violation of the Protection of Communications Secrets Act.
Speaking to the press in front of the civil service office, Jang firmly denied all allegations and reiterated his previous position. He urged, 'Please refrain from reporting only the complainant’s unilateral claims,' and added, 'We have all the evidence, and many, including my legal team, are confident of victory.'
Regarding the sexual harassment allegation, Jang stated, 'At the time of the initial 112 emergency call, I was not the subject of the investigation. If the word ‘sexual harassment’ had been mentioned in the report, the Yoon Suk Yeol administration would never have overlooked it.' He argued, 'It would be better to ask Mr. A why they did not file a complaint at that time.'
On the accusation of false reporting, he commented, 'I believe the real motive for another party’s staff member to accuse me is likely political.' He continued, 'If there had been any actual harm and the complaint had been filed last year, I would not have been able to defend myself in any way.'
When asked whether there had been any direct or indirect attempts to persuade or pressure Mr. A after the incident, Jang emphasized, 'There was absolutely none.'
Jang’s attorney claimed that the complaint was filed in the public interest. The lawyer explained, 'Mr. A’s then-boyfriend grabbed Jang’s neck and other actions, which led to an accusation of assault. There were also circumstances indicating dating violence by Mr. B against Mr. A, which was reported as assault from a third-party perspective.' He added, 'Even the harm Mr. A suffered due to her boyfriend’s actions was reported as a public interest disclosure and accusation.'
The Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit at the SMPA is currently investigating the case in which Mr. A accused Jang of sexual harassment at a restaurant in Yeouido during last year’s Parliamentary Inspection of the Administration.
Police have secured and are analyzing video and other evidence from the time of the alleged sexual harassment. They are also coordinating attendance schedules for the complainant and other attendees.
