[Financial News] The family of the late Kim Sae-ron has raised questions about the cancellation of the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) TV program 'Curious Stories Y,' warning Kim Soo-hyun's side not to frame them with accusations of fabrication.
Ji-seok Boo, a lawyer representing Kim Sae-ron's family, claimed on the 1st, "Attorney Go Sang-rok, the legal representative of Kim Soo-hyun, changed his stance during the coverage of SBS's 'Curious Stories Y' and is now casting suspicion of fabrication on the bereaved family."
The family explained, "On Saturday, November 8, SBS's investigative program suddenly requested an interview with us regarding this case. We later learned that they had already interviewed Kim Soo-hyun's side first, and only approached us for an interview in the final stage of production (with the broadcast scheduled for Friday, November 14). As the investigative authorities had advised us to refrain from media contact, we deliberated for some time before agreeing to the interview."
They added, "The interview took place on Monday, November 10, just four days before the broadcast. We provided some materials indicating that the late Kim Sae-ron had dated Kim Soo-hyun while she was a minor, and also requested that the program handle the issue impartially."
The family continued, "However, on November 12, just two days before the scheduled broadcast, we were suddenly informed that the episode had been canceled. The opposing attorney unilaterally threatened civil and criminal action, claiming that releasing the materials would constitute grounds for detention."
They further emphasized, "The reason Kim Sae-ron's mother released her first statement on November 26 was because Attorney Go Sang-rok's repeated media responses left us no choice but to break our silence. The family will respond strongly to any accusations of fabrication."
In response, Attorney Go Sang-rok, representing Kim Soo-hyun, explained, "We only requested caution due to concerns about additional crimes and secondary harm. We did not attempt to block the broadcast of 'Curious Stories Y.' We also conveyed that if our side's rebuttal was sufficiently reflected, we would not object to the program airing."
As the controversy grew, the 'Curious Stories Y' production team at SBS stated, "It is true that we investigated the cases of the late Kim Sae-ron and Kim Soo-hyun. However, after completing our coverage, the production team decided internally not to air the episode."
They added, "Both sides presented reasonable arguments, and we felt that reconstructing the story for broadcast would not be particularly meaningful. Therefore, we concluded that airing the episode would be difficult."
The 'Curious Stories Y' team also emphasized that they always decide whether to air an episode after completing their investigation, and that this is not the only case to be canceled.
Earlier, Kim Sae-ron was found dead at her home in Seongdong District, Seoul, on February 16, Kim Soo-hyun's birthday. The family released photos, text messages, and letters through the YouTube channel 'Garo Sero Research Institute,' claiming that Kim Sae-ron and Kim Soo-hyun had been in a relationship for about six years since she was a minor.
Kim Soo-hyun's agency, Goldmedalist, immediately denied these claims, but Garo Sero Research Institute continued to release photos related to Kim Soo-hyun's private life, asserting that they supported the allegations.
Currently, Kim Soo-hyun has filed lawsuits against the bereaved family and YouTubers for defamation and damages, escalating the legal battle. Meanwhile, the family of the late Kim Sae-ron has also filed counter-charges against Kim Soo-hyun for violating the Child Welfare Act and making false accusations, resulting in an ongoing dispute over the truth.
