[Financial News] The police will take over and continue investigating cases that the Three Major Special Prosecutor Investigations could not complete.
The National Office of Investigation of the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) announced on the 1st that, starting today, it has established the Special Investigation Headquarters, which guarantees independence and fairness in investigations, to handle cases transferred from the Three Major Special Prosecutor Investigations.
Previously, on the 28th of last month, the National Office of Investigation received an unresolved case from the Special Prosecutor for the Investigation of the Death of a Marine. By the end of December, it also plans to sequentially take over cases from the Special Counsel for Insurrection and others.
According to Article 27 of the Rules on the Establishment and Operation of Investigation Headquarters, the police plan to proceed with the investigation under the leadership of Kim Bo-jun, Security Investigation Deliberation Officer of the KNPA, who was appointed as the head of the Special Investigation Headquarters after a resolution by the Police Investigation Review Committee.
Initially, an investigation team will be formed to handle the case transferred from the Special Prosecutor for the Investigation of the Death of a Marine, whose investigation period has expired. Additional teams will be organized as the investigation periods for the remaining special prosecutors conclude.
A police official stated, "The head of the Special Investigation Headquarters will conduct investigations independently regarding his duties and will report only the results to the head of the National Office of Investigation."
