Police investigating the sexual harassment allegations against Kyung-tae Jang of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) have secured related video footage and are proceeding with the investigation.
A representative from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) stated at a regular press briefing on the 1st, "We have obtained some interior footage of the restaurant submitted by the person who filmed it," adding, "We are in the process of securing additional materials."
It has been confirmed that the police are coordinating schedules for the plaintiff and others who were present at the time of the incident. However, since the incident occurred a year ago, securing closed-circuit (CC) TV footage has proven difficult.
A police official explained, "We have checked the dispatch records from that time, and no investigation had been conducted regarding Kyung-tae Jang at that point," adding, "A more detailed investigation into the case will be carried out in due course."
Regarding Kyung-tae Jang’s statement that he intends to file a false accusation suit against the plaintiff, it has been reported that no such complaint has been received yet. The police said, "No request for a false accusation charge has been filed so far," and added, "We will make a determination if such a request is made in the future."
Previously, on the 30th of last month, Jang was sued for alleged sexual harassment by a woman known to be a secretary at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea. The complaint was initially filed with the Yeongdeungpo Police Station, but the SMPA has since taken over the case and is conducting the investigation directly.
Jang has denied the sexual harassment allegations, stating, "There was no harassment," and explained, "The incident involved the plaintiff’s boyfriend shouting and acting violently, which led to a police report being filed."
