[Financial News] Lee Jae-yong, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, attended the commissioning ceremony for his eldest son, Lee Ji-ho (24), who completed the 139th class of Navy officer candidates on the 28th. Joining him were his mother, Hong Ra-hee, Honorary Director of the Leeum Museum of Art, and his sister, Lee Seo-hyun, President of Samsung C&T.
At around 1:20 p.m. that day, Lee Jae-yong appeared in the family seating area at the Republic of Korea Naval Academy parade ground, accompanied by Director Hong and President Lee.
Lee Ji-ho, Lee Jae-yong’s eldest son, enlisted as a member of the 139th class of Navy officer candidates at the end of September. He completed about 11 weeks of training at the academy and served as the class representative, leading the troops during the ceremony.
Lee Jae-yong greeted other families of officer candidates seated in the family section. He was also seen smiling and conversing with an officer seated to his left.
Lim Se-ryeong, Vice Chair of Daesang Group and mother of Lee Ji-ho, also attended the ceremony. This marks the first time since their divorce in 2009 that Lee Jae-yong and Lim Se-ryeong have appeared together at an official event.
Starting today, Lee Ji-ho will take a four-day leave before returning to the Republic of Korea Navy Education and Training Command in Changwon on December 2, where he will undergo three weeks of basic military training for new officers. During this period, his unit assignment will be determined.
After completing basic training, he will move to the Republic of Korea Fleet Command in Busan, where he will receive further training to serve as an interpreter officer in the naval vessel branch. He is expected to perform interpretation duties during ROK-US Combined Military Exercises and other operations.
Lee Ji-ho’s military service will total 39 months, including the training period and the mandatory 36 months of service after commissioning. Unless he extends his service, he is scheduled to be discharged on December 2, 2028.
