[The Financial News] In a recent public opinion survey on the merits and faults of former presidents, Yoon Suk Yeol received the highest negative rating, surpassing former President Chun Doo-hwan and ranking last overall.
On the 28th, Gallup Korea released the results of a survey conducted from the 25th to the 27th with 1,000 adults aged 18 and older, evaluating the performance of former presidents. According to the findings, 77% of respondents said Yoon Suk Yeol 'has done many wrong things,' the highest among all former presidents.
Following Yoon Suk Yeol, former Presidents Chun Doo-hwan (68%), Park Geun-hye (65%), and Roh Tae-woo (50%) also received high negative ratings. Lee Myung-bak (46%), Moon Jae-in (44%), and Syngman Rhee (40%) were also viewed as having more faults than merits.
Among all former presidents, Roh Moo-hyun received the highest positive rating, with 68% of respondents saying he 'has done many good things.' Only 15% responded that he 'has done many wrong things.' Park Chung Hee (62%), Kim Dae-jung (60%), and Kim Young-sam (42%) followed in terms of positive evaluations.
Former presidents Yoon Bo-seon and Choi Kyu-ha, who served for short terms, were excluded from the survey. Gallup Korea, which has conducted five surveys on this subject since 2012, noted, 'Over the past 10 years, positive perceptions of Kim Young-sam and Lee Myung-bak have increased while negative perceptions have decreased, indicating a possible reevaluation.'
The survey was conducted through telephone interviews using randomly generated mobile numbers. The margin of error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, with a contact rate of 44.9% and a response rate of 11.9%.
