[The Financial News] A video has gone viral showing a mother kicking her baby, estimated to be about one year old, to the ground in order to film a video, sparking public outrage.
According to Newsis News Agency on the 28th, a video was posted on Threads on the 18th with the caption, 'If my son moves, we have to film again.'
In the video, a woman believed to be the mother sits two children down and kicks the younger child's shoulder to make them fall, all to form the word 'LOVE.'
To spell out 'LOVE' using the children's bodies, the older child raises their hand to form an 'L,' while the younger child, falling over, creates a 'V' shape with their legs. The letters 'O' and 'E' were drawn on the screen.
However, some online users who watched the video accused the mother of child abuse and harshly criticized her actions.
Comments included, "What did I just see? This is insane," "Did she really kick her child just for a video? That's a different kind of funny," "Is this supposed to be entertaining? What is this mother of two thinking?" and "She kicked the baby too hard—are they okay?"
On the other hand, some argued there was no problem, saying, "The baby who fell is smiling, not crying," "The baby seems to be enjoying it," and "They'll probably like watching this when they're older."
Meanwhile, one online user said they would report the incident to the police for child abuse. Person A told the media, "On the afternoon of the 20th, I visited Seoul Yangcheon Police Station to file a child abuse complaint, but the police refused to accept it, citing difficulties in prosecution."
They continued, "The officers said the complainant must identify the video source for an investigation to begin. Even if the source is found, since it involves an American company, prosecution would be difficult. They refused to accept the complaint for these reasons," adding, "This is a clear case of dereliction of duty, shifting the basic responsibilities of the investigative agency onto the complainant. Anyone who becomes aware of or suspects child abuse can report it."
They also emphasized, "Regardless of whether the source is unknown or if AI is involved, this is clearly a crime."
