[The Financial News] An incident occurred in Thailand where passengers’ suitcases were swept into the sea from a ferry.
According to the Daily Mail and other sources on the 26th (local time), dozens of pieces of luggage belonging to passengers fell into the sea from a ferry traveling from Koh Tao to Koh Samui in Thailand on the 23rd.
An Australian tourist, referred to as Person A, who was on the ferry, witnessed their suitcase drifting on the water.
Person A shared the scene via social networking service (SNS), stating, "I lost all my luggage because of the incompetent crew."
The video showed several suitcases and backpacks floating on the sea.
It is believed that the ferry operator failed to properly secure the luggage on the upper deck, causing the bags to fall overboard due to rough waves.
Ultimately, Person A and their companion were unable to recover their luggage and reportedly received compensation of about 50,000 Thai baht (THB).
They said, "I only received compensation after persistent demands, but some passengers received nothing and even missed their flights."
They added, "The staff were convinced that each suitcase could not possibly be worth more than 20,000 THB, but in reality, each was likely worth around 100,000 THB."
Meanwhile, the route connecting Koh Tao and Koh Samui is notorious for being especially treacherous during the rainy season, according to the Daily Mail.
