On the 23rd, a post appeared on the 'Suggestions to Jeju Special Self-Governing Province' board of the provincial office website, reporting that people were drinking all night and grilling meat at the summit of Nokkome Oreum Volcanic Cone.
A complainant, identified as A, pointed out, "There is a risk of wildfires, and these campers take over the observatory, causing significant inconvenience to those climbing the oreum.
" Camping and cooking on the oreum are considered illegal under Article 40 of the Natural Environment Conservation Act (Prevention of Damage to Public Natural Areas) and Article 57 of the Forest Protection Act (Prohibition of Possession of Flammable Materials). Violators may face a fine of up to 1 million won.
In response to these complaints, the provincial government announced it would issue a notice restricting access, cooking, and camping on the oreum based on the Natural Environment Conservation Act.
Additionally, the government plans to strengthen crackdowns on illegal camping through wildfire monitors stationed at 67 locations across the island.
