[Financial News] The Kim Keon Hee Special Prosecutor Team, led by Min Joong-ki, will summon former President Yoon Suk Yeol as the investigation nears its end. Given the limited time remaining, the team is expected to question Yoon, the central figure, and wrap up the indictment process soon after.
On the 26th, Deputy Special Prosecutor Hyung-Geun Kim stated, "Although former President Yoon was initially requested to appear today, the schedule was postponed. We have now notified him through the Seoul Detention Center to appear at the special prosecutor's office at 10 a.m. on the 17th of next month."
The special prosecutor team plans to conduct a broad investigation into the various allegations surrounding Yoon Suk Yeol. He previously failed to comply with two summonses in August. The investigation will cover suspicions such as the 'Myung Tae-gyun nomination intervention,' 'Kim Sang-min's personnel intervention,' 'Lee Bae-yong's alleged sale of office as former Chairperson of the National Education Commission,' 'intervention in the People Power Party convention,' and 'Lee Bong-gwan of Seohee Construction's lobbying allegations.' To substantiate these suspicions and apply charges, the team needs to determine whether Yoon was directly involved. Investigators intend to question him about his role in personnel decisions and alleged quid pro quo arrangements.
On the 24th, the special prosecutor team announced that it had begun coordinating with the Special Prosecutor Team for Insurrection and Treason, led by Cho Eun-seok, regarding Kim Keon-hee's mobile phone, which had been requested for evidence sharing. The Kim Keon Hee Special Prosecutor Team recently secured Kim's mobile phone during a search of Acrovista. However, they were unable to unlock the device, and upon request from the insurrection team, transferred the phone for further investigation.
The Special Prosecutor Team for Insurrection and Treason reportedly obtained evidence that Kim Keon-hee received investigation reports from former Justice Minister Park Sung-jae regarding the 'Myung Tae-gyun allegations' and inquired about investigations into Kim Jung-sook. Since the team believes that Kim Keon-hee's legal risks may have been a factor in Yoon's decision to declare martial law, both special prosecutor teams plan to coordinate their overlapping investigation scopes as the deadline approaches.
Meanwhile, the results of an internal audit regarding the 'Suspicion over the Death of a Yangpyeong Public Official,' who died while under investigation by the Kim Keon Hee Special Prosecutor Team and whose family claimed coercive questioning, are expected to be released on the 27th. The audit began about six weeks ago, following the official's death.
