[Financial News] The Korean National Police University (KNPU) announced on the 26th that it had piloted the nation’s first Counter-Terrorism Policy Training Program over two days, beginning on the 24th.
This new program was established to lay the foundation for enhancing national counter-terrorism capabilities and to solidify the collaborative system among central government agencies and related organizations.
As the primary agency for responding to domestic terrorism, the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) plays a leading role at sites where public and private sectors are intertwined, such as airports, subways, and critical national infrastructure. Accordingly, KNPU conducted a pilot training program aimed at cultivating counter-terrorism specialists and strengthening practical cooperation among relevant agencies.
Seventeen officials from related organizations, including the KNPA and the Counterterrorism Center of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, participated in the training. The curriculum focused on practical topics such as understanding national counter-terrorism policies and legal frameworks, domestic and international terrorism trends, initial response to terrorist incidents, and establishing inter-agency cooperation systems.
KNPU plans to incorporate feedback from participating agencies to further refine the curriculum. Starting in 2026, the Counter-Terrorism Policy Training Program will become a regular part of the university’s offerings, providing systematic support to strengthen nationwide counter-terrorism capabilities.
Kim Sung-hee, President of KNPU, stated, “Terrorism is a complex threat that cannot be addressed by a single agency alone. This training marks a significant turning point in establishing an integrated national response system by enhancing inter-agency cooperation and information sharing.”
