[The Financial News] Students may face financial losses after an education-related app company that had collaborated with MIMIMINU, a YouTuber with 1.89 million subscribers who produces educational content, went bankrupt.
On the 25th, MIMIMINU posted on their channel, "I apologize for the bankruptcy of Study Work, the operator of Part-time Study, and the delay in returning deposits."
They explained, "The 'Part-time Study' service, which was advertised on my channel, suddenly filed for bankruptcy on the 24th without any prior notice. As a result, many people have not been able to get their deposits refunded. I turned on the camera to directly share my position and response plan regarding this situation."
They added, "I have continuously tried to contact the CEO and staff, but to no avail. I believe it is my responsibility to act as quickly as possible for viewers who trusted me and used the service."
MIMIMINU also stated, "I will formally deliver all the advertising fees I received, along with additional funds, to the victims. I hope this will provide some support to those who are struggling and unable to sleep at night as they face a difficult battle ahead."
Part-time Study is an app where students and others deposit money and receive their deposit back with an additional bonus if they achieve their study goals. However, in the days leading up to the bankruptcy, refund requests were not being processed, and users reported that a sudden announcement was posted. Reported losses per person range from 100,000 to 900,000 won.
One user said, "I haven’t been able to get my 200,000 won deposit back. I applied for a refund three days ago, but the withdrawal didn’t go through. I wondered what was happening, and today I found out about the bankruptcy. I instantly became a creditor. It feels like I’ve been hit over the head. I hope all victims, including myself, receive a full refund."
It is reported that the MIMIMINU channel collaborated with this company to run promotions, offering additional deposits to users who entrusted their money to the company.
Currently, all videos produced by MIMIMINU in partnership with the company have been deleted.
MIMIMINU provided guidance on creditor registration procedures, stating, "I sincerely apologize to viewers who trusted the channel's advertisements and used the service, resulting in harm. I am still trying to contact key stakeholders, and as soon as I receive concrete answers, I will promptly post further updates on the YouTube community."
