[The Financial News] There have been claims that, during his presidency, Yoon Suk Yeol became intoxicated after drinking soju mixed with beer (a popular Korean cocktail known as 'somaek') during a National Intelligence Service (NIS) briefing and had to be carried out by his security detail.
On the 23rd, Youn Kun-young, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), appeared on MBC Radio’s 'Jongbae Kim's Focus' and stated, "It seems that Yoon Suk Yeol attended an NIS briefing in February 2023. After wrapping up the meeting rather quickly, he reportedly made somaek (soju-beer bombs)."
Youn continued, "I heard that soju-beer bombs were passed around every table, and he became so intoxicated that he had to be carried out by his security officer. As the president of a nation, I thought this was excessive, so I have not spoken about it publicly until now."
He also described this as one of the 'eccentric behaviors' of Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife, Kim Keon-hee, stating, "It is already beyond common sense for the president to fake going to work, but to avoid being caught, he spent 400 million won to build an underground storage. Because he often drank and couldn’t sober up, he installed a sauna in his office, and even brought ten bottles of Chamisul Fresh soju on overseas trips."
Youn also criticized Yoon’s demeanor during the rebellion trial, saying, "Watching Yoon Suk Yeol’s testimony, I found it insincere. Isn’t he shifting all the blame onto his subordinates to save himself? Since the illegal martial law, Yoon Suk Yeol has shown no sense of responsibility toward the people."
