[Financial News] Issues have arisen regarding the quality of promotional plates given out by sandwich chain Subway, as reports surfaced of the printed designs melting off the plates.
On the 24th, posts titled "Subway’s New Lobster Plate Melts Away" appeared on online communities and social media.
Subway has been offering the Subway Limited Edition Lobster Plate on a first-come, first-served basis with purchases from its winter-exclusive Lobster Sandwich Collection.
One customer who used the plate warned, "Don’t eat anything off the Subway plate—the ink comes off." The customer added, "After washing the plate I received earlier, I noticed all the red color had disappeared, and the green was starting to fade as well. You can tell by the smudges that the design is vanishing as if it’s melting away."
Another customer posted a photo showing lobster ink floating in a dish served on the plate. Online users responded with criticism, commenting, "This should be recalled," "Did they use edible ink?" "Even Daiso has better quality," and "Did they just buy these from Temu and give them away?"
As the controversy grew, Subway announced on the morning of the 24th that it would suspend distribution of the promotional goods at all stores.
