KOSPI Retreats to 3,840 Level Amid Individual and Foreign Investor Selling [fn Closing Market]

[Financial News] The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) retreated to the 3,840 level on the 24th, pressured by selling from individual and foreign investors.
On this day, the KOSPI closed at 3,846.06, down 7.20 points (0.19%) from the previous session. The index opened strong at 3,915.16, up 61.90 points (1.61%), but shifted downward in the latter part of the session.
Although institutional investors purchased 894.2 billion won worth of shares in the domestic stock market, it was not enough to offset the selling by individual and foreign investors. Individual investors sold 453.2 billion won, while foreign investors offloaded 421.4 billion won.
Among the top 14 stocks by market capitalization, all ended lower except for Samsung Electronics (up 2.0%) and Samsung C&T (up 0.93%). LG Energy Solution (-3.17%), Celltrion (-2.83%), Kia (-2.54%), and Hanwha Aerospace (-1.61%) saw the largest declines.
By sector, securities (up 1.26%), Broadcasting and Telecommunications (up 1.21%), and semiconductor (up 0.81%) posted gains. In contrast, steel (-2.40%), health care (-2.09%), and energy and chemical industry (-2.06%) recorded losses.
The KOSDAQ Index finished at 856.44, down 7.51 points (0.87%) from the previous session. The index opened at 860.75, down 3.2 points (0.37%).
