[Financial News] A Korean man in his 40s has been arrested by local authorities in Thailand on charges of drug use and procuring prostitution.
According to the Thai Examiner and other Thai media outlets on the 23rd, the Royal Thai Police (RTP) arrested a 46-year-old Korean man, Mr. A, on the 20th for charges including drug use, illegal entry, and procuring prostitution.
Local police received a tip-off that a foreigner was hiring young women for entertainment and drug use, and subsequently raided a luxury condominium in Pattaya, Thailand.
At the time, Mr. A was reportedly gambling and watching pornographic material.
At the scene, officers discovered four plastic bags containing a total of 4g of methamphetamine, along with various inhalation devices. Mr. A reportedly did not resist arrest.
During police questioning, Mr. A claimed that he had purchased the methamphetamine from a friend for 4,000 baht (approximately 180,000 KRW), insisting it was for personal use and entertainment purposes.
Police believe that Mr. A called young women to the condominium for what has been described as a 'drug party,' and are investigating allegations that both prostitution and drug use took place at the gathering.
Authorities are also analyzing Mr. A's communication records to determine whether he had accomplices or committed additional crimes.
Local police stated, "This case illustrates how illegal activities such as drug use, prostitution, and gambling are intertwined in Pattaya. The combination of drug paraphernalia, cash flow, and digital activities suggests that Mr. A may have been engaged in illegal conduct over an extended period."
They added, "Foreign nationals who violate Thai law are subject to immediate arrest and prosecution."
Meanwhile, police investigations revealed that Mr. A had previously been banned from entering Thailand, meaning he was residing in the country illegally.
In response, authorities plan to strengthen monitoring for violations of the Immigration Control Act by foreigners who are subject to entry bans, and to intensify crackdowns on crimes committed by foreign nationals.
