[Financial News] 'Masterpieces from the Renaissance to Impressionism: Special Exhibition from the San Diego Museum of Art,' which presents 65 world-renowned paintings spanning 600 years of Western art history, is receiving a strong response from the Korean art community.
The Korea Arts Management Service (KAMS) announced on the 24th that a variety of discount and partnership campaigns, including on-site discounts through support, have begun. KAMS noted that these initiatives are expected to make the exhibition—which offers a comprehensive view of 600 years of Western art history in one place—much more accessible to the general public.
The exhibition, which debuted at the Sejong Museum of Art on the 4th, has been highly praised by Korean art enthusiasts and experts alike.
Robert Dawson, Chairman of the Board at the San Diego Museum of Art (SDMA), commented, “This exhibition is the finest showcase of SDMA’s treasured permanent collection, presented in the most beautiful way in the world.”
Taffin Ray, former Chair of the Board at SDMA and a docent volunteer at the museum for over 20 years, also remarked, “The exhibition boasts world-class quality in every aspect, from the layout and color scheme to the arrangement of works and use of lighting.”
Art critics and art historians have also praised the exhibition, calling it 'an achievement that transcends the conventions of previous exhibitions.' Park U-chan, who wrote the epilogue for the exhibition, stated, “It is rare in the history of Korean exhibitions to find a project that so meticulously presents the major currents of Western art history across various eras and movements.”
Art historian Yi Hyun explained, “Although many of these artists are not well known in Korea, their masterpieces are essential in Western art history, and this exhibition offers a condensed overview of those developments.”
Meanwhile, the exhibition was officially selected for the '2025 Art Exhibition Admission Fee On-Site Discount Support' program by the Korea Arts Management Service (KAMS) to promote art exhibition attendance, and began offering on-site discounts from the 17th.
This initiative is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), organized by KAMS, and supported by Arts Council Korea (ARKO). As a result of being selected for this admission fee support program, visitors to the exhibition can receive a 3,000 KRW discount at the venue until the allocated budget is exhausted.
Additionally, Gaudium Associates is running a discount promotion in partnership with SK Telecom. From July 2 to February 22 next year, SKT T Membership members will receive a 20% discount on admission.
Kim Dae Sung, CEO of Gaudium Associates, stated, “We have prepared various discount programs so that more visitors can experience this exhibition, which offers a unique opportunity to understand and appreciate Western art history in one place.”
