Police Urgently Arrest Man in His 70s for Sinwol-dong Apartment Fire

The suspect responsible for the apartment fire in Sinwol-dong, Yangcheon District, Seoul, has been apprehended by police.
On the 24th, the Seoul Yangcheon Police Station announced that Mr. A, a man in his 70s associated with the apartment, was urgently arrested as a suspect in the fire that occurred at around 5:33 a.m. on the 21st at a nine-story apartment building in Sinwol-dong, Yangcheon District, Seoul.
The urgent arrest took place at around 6:30 p.m. on the 21st. Mr. A is charged with arson resulting in serious property damage, allegedly setting the fire in the waste paper collection area on the first floor of the apartment.
As a result of the fire, 18 passenger cars parked on the first floor were completely destroyed, and more than 50 residents were transported to the hospital. Fire authorities mobilized over 300 support personnel and fully extinguished the fire in about two and a half hours.
Police have requested an arrest warrant for Mr. A, and the Seoul Southern District Court began a warrant review hearing at 10:30 a.m. that day.
