[Financial News] An Se-young, the world No. 1 in women's singles badminton at age 23, has revealed that despite earning 1 billion won in prize money, she continues to maintain modest spending habits.
On the tvN show 'You Quiz on the Block' aired on the 19th, An Se-young appeared as a guest and shared a variety of stories.
An Se-young began playing badminton at the age of eight and has continued her athletic career up to the age of 23. This year alone, she has competed in 13 international tournaments, winning nine of them and achieving a 94% win rate.
Notably, although An Se-young's total prize money for this season has surpassed 1 billion won, she drew attention by saying she spends very little on herself.
She said, "When I eat with my older teammates, they tell me, 'You earn well, so treat us,' and I happily do. I also give many gifts to my coaches and often buy snacks for junior players." When asked if she spends money on herself, she replied, "There isn't much I want to buy, so I only changed my wallet recently. I enjoy dressing up my younger sibling from head to toe. I feel more joy when giving gifts to others."
Upon hearing this, Cho Sae-ho commented to both, "You two are similar. Aren't you both overwhelming No. 1s in your respective fields?" He then asked Yoo Jae-suk, "Don't you also rarely spend much on yourself?" Yoo Jae-suk replied, "That's right. I don't really spend much on myself."
An Se-young also opened up about the difficulties she faces in relationships. She shared, "I tend to get a lot of stress from relationships. As a singles player, I'm used to being alone. I often worry about whether I'm bothering others or taking up their time, so interacting with people is difficult for me. The only thing I'm good at is badminton."
Regarding her future goals, she said, "My aim is always to consistently achieve good results. I hope to stay injury-free and keep winning the upcoming tournaments. If I do, I believe I'll eventually create another memorable chapter in my career."
