[Financial News] Donald John Trump hurled insults at a female reporter who asked him a question, calling her a "piggy."
According to reports from the Guardian and other foreign media on the 20th, President Trump met with journalists aboard Air Force One on the 14th. When Catherine Lucey of Bloomberg News asked, 'If there is nothing unfavorable in the Jeffrey Edward Epstein documents, why not release them?' Trump pointed at her and said, "Be quiet, be quiet, piggy."
Elisa Lees Muñoz, Executive Director of the International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF), criticized, "President Trump's attacks on female reporters are nothing new," adding, "His insults targeting appearance are a sexist attempt to silence women journalists."
She continued, "Such slurs may seem trivial on the surface, but when used by a head of state, they can incite attacks against the targeted reporter." She also noted, "This not only affects her ability to do her job, but also sends an intimidating message to other female journalists who ask tough questions of the president."
President Trump's harsh remarks toward reporters have sparked controversy on multiple occasions.
On the 18th (local time), during a meeting with Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud (MbS), Mary Bruce of ABC News asked about the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. Trump responded, "ABC News is fake news. One of the worst in the industry."
Later, when Bruce questioned him about Jeffrey Edward Epstein, Trump retorted, "The problem isn't the question, it's your attitude," and added, "I think you are a terrible reporter."
He further insisted he had no connection to Jeffrey Edward Epstein, calling the scandal a "hoax," and added, "Your lousy company is one of the perpetrators."
During his first administration in 2018, he called CNN's April Ryan a "loser" and told Cecilia Vega of ABC News that she was a "reporter who never thinks."
Meanwhile, The White House released a statement saying, "This reporter (Catherine Lucey) behaved inappropriately and unprofessionally toward her colleagues on the plane. If you criticize, you should also be ready to be criticized."
Regarding Bruce's question about Jamal Khashoggi, the journalist murdered by the Saudi regime in 2018, Trump claimed, "I despise your company. Your sham company is one of the perpetrators spreading fake news. Its license should be revoked."
