[Financial News] Prime Minister Kim Min-seok stated that if he meets Han Dong-hoon, former Minister of Justice, he intends to commend him for properly filing the annulment request in the Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) case regarding the sale of Korea Exchange Bank (KEB) to Lone Star Funds, in which the Korean government recently prevailed.
On the 20th, Prime Minister Kim referenced Han Dong-hoon's decision to file for annulment during his tenure as Minister of Justice, writing on his Facebook account, 'This is not something to be politicized.'
He continued, 'From the beginning, I believed that this achievement belonged to those who fulfilled their duties without wavering during a period of political turmoil, when there was neither a president nor a minister. I have emphasized this point. There is no need to disparage or dismiss the efforts of others, nor to belittle the annulment request as a mere formality. We must unite all our national strength to enhance our country's power and fortune.'
Prime Minister Kim's post appears to be a response to criticism from the People Power Party and Han Dong-hoon, who decided to continue the annulment lawsuit as Minister of Justice, that the current administration is 'taking credit' for the victory.
Prime Minister Kim also stated, 'Early this morning, I called those who played a key role in the Lone Star Funds victory to express my gratitude,' listing officials such as Jeong Hongsik, director at the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), and Joara, DOJ section chief, and emphasized, 'These are the real contributors.'
He added, 'I told Minister Jung Sung-ho to celebrate with a chicken and beer party. I believe the President will also commend these individuals upon his return.'
