[Financial News] A customer was spotted charging an electric unicycle (EUC) using a store outlet at a café, sparking controversy.
On the 19th, a post appeared on the automotive online community Bobaedream, describing a shocking scene witnessed at a Starbucks Corporation location.
The poster, under the title 'Electric Unicycle Charging Spotted at Starbucks—How Far Can Charging Go?', shared a photo. The image shows a man sitting at a window-side table with an electric unicycle placed at his feet.
The issue is that the electric unicycle in the photo is being charged. The photo clearly captures the EUC plugged into a store outlet at the table.
The poster expressed concern, asking, "How much charging is allowed at Starbucks Corporation?" and added, "Charging an electric unicycle indoors seems extremely dangerous."
In fact, there have been a series of fires recently during the charging of personal mobility devices (PMDs) such as electric scooters and electric unicycles, raising concerns. According to data from the National Fire Agency (NFA), there have been 612 battery fires nationwide over the past five years since 2019, with 51% caused by overcharging. Experts advise that PMDs should always be charged in designated areas using only the manufacturer-recommended chargers.
