[The Financial News] A newborn was found alive inside the toilet tank of an office restroom in Bangkok, Thailand, shocking the public.
According to the UK’s Daily Mail on the 18th (local time), a janitor cleaning an office building in Bangkok on the 15th discovered a crying newborn inside the toilet tank and reported it to the police.
At the time, the baby was unclothed and trapped in a half-filled toilet tank. The infant’s skin was pale and soaked from the water.
Police who arrived at the scene rescued the baby from the tank and transported the child to Sirindhorn Hospital. Medical examination revealed the newborn weighed about 2.7 kg and had no injuries.
Inspector Kritsada Saikhong stated, "The baby was less than a day old and is believed to have been placed in the tank immediately after birth. No one suspected to be the parents was found nearby."
Police have secured closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and are investigating individuals who entered and exited the building and restroom.
Anyone found to have abandoned the baby may be prosecuted for abandonment under Section 306 of the Thai Criminal Code, facing up to three years in prison and a fine of 6,000 baht (approximately 270,000 won).
