[Financial News] A Chinese influencer who disappeared in Cambodia after saying she was going to meet her boyfriend has been arrested on charges of participating in illegal human trafficking and involvement in a criminal organization, causing shock.
According to The Cambodia China Times on the 19th (local time), local police arrested 26-year-old Chinese woman Zhang Muxing on suspicion of joining an online scam group engaged in illegal human trafficking.
The media reported that she is currently being held at Phnom Penh Baksey Prison. The court issued an arrest warrant for Zhang Muxing on the 15th.
According to local investigative authorities, she is suspected of being involved in cross-border human trafficking crimes by participating in multiple online scam cases from October to November.
An anonymous source indicated that some of the criminal proceeds were transferred to accounts under Zhang Muxing’s name.
Zhang Muxing gained 110,000 followers on Chinese social media under the name 'Orange Sisters.' Earlier this month, she announced she was heading to Cambodia to meet her boyfriend, 'Brother Long,' but lost contact soon after.
Her family reported, "From the 5th to the 11th, she left comments on social media saying she was in Cambodia and had booked a flight to China for the 13th, but since the 12th, there have been no new posts." They filed a missing person report and sought help from the local embassy and diplomatic authorities.
After her crimes came to light, local netizens criticized her, saying, "We thought she was kidnapped, but she was actually involved in the crimes," and "Did she gather followers to engage in human trafficking?"
Cambodian police are investigating possible links to an international human trafficking network and are expanding their probe into related accounts and accomplices.
