The Special Prosecutor Team for Insurrection and Treason (headed by Cho Eun-seok) is currently questioning Wankyu Lee, who attended the 'Samcheong-dong Safe House Meeting.'
According to legal sources on the 19th, the special prosecutor's team summoned Lee as a suspect for questioning starting at 10 a.m. This is the first time Lee has appeared before the team in connection with the December 3 Martial Law Incident.
Arriving at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office at around 9:50 a.m., Lee stated, "I am here to be questioned due to a complaint related to the safe house meeting," and added, "Everything that has been said about that day is mere speculation, and I will clarify the facts during the investigation."
When asked if measures to justify martial law were discussed at the safe house meeting, he replied, "No such discussion took place."
Lee is suspected of having met with Kim Joo-hyun, former Senior Presidential Secretary for Civil Affairs, Park Sung-jae, former Minister of Justice, and Lee Sang-min, former Minister of the Interior and Safety, at the Samcheong-dong Safe House on December 4 last year, after the lifting of martial law, to discuss post-incident response strategies.
He has been accused of perjury in the National Assembly's Investigation of State Administration, where he claimed, "I did not say much at the meeting," and "One cannot discuss matters without knowing the facts."
Lee also appeared as a witness at last month's Parliamentary Inspection of the Administration, where he refused to take an oath, stating, "The safe house meeting scheduled for questioning is under investigation."
Recently, during a forensic analysis of the mobile phone of Park Sung-jae, former Minister of Justice, who attended the safe house meeting, the special prosecutor's team recovered a file titled 'Document Related to Abuse of Authority.'
It was confirmed that Park received this file via Telegram from Se-Jin Lim, then Director of the Criminal Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Justice (MOJ), on December 4 last year, the day after martial law, and subsequently deleted it.
Reportedly, the file pointed out abuses of legislative power, impeachment authority, and budget review authority by the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), claiming that the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea was abusing its powers through 'legislative dictatorship.' Park attended the safe house meeting immediately after receiving this document.
The special prosecutor's team plans to question Lee on whether he received the 'abuse of authority document' during the safe house meeting and whether post-martial law response measures were discussed based on it.
