[Financial News] A farm owner who brutally killed dogs he raised has received a fine in the appellate court as well.
On the 19th, the Jeonju District Court Criminal Division 3-2, presided over by Chief Judge Hwang Ji-ae, announced that it had dismissed the prosecutor's appeal and upheld the original sentence of a 4 million won fine for Mr. A (64), who was indicted for violating the Animal Protection Act and the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act.
Mr. A was charged with killing 25 dogs, including Tosas, at a farm in Jeongeup-si between March and July 2023.
He repeatedly slaughtered the dogs by confining them in wire cages and electrocuting them with high-voltage current.
In July 2023, Mr. A also slaughtered a goat in a similarly cruel manner at the same location.
The appellate court stated, "The defendant electrocuted 25 dogs he raised, causing them to die in extreme pain," and pointed out, "This method falls under the 'cruel methods' defined by the Supreme Court's rulings."
The court added, "Although the defendant's crime is not minor, he has shown remorse and switched his business to livestock farming, so the possibility of reoffending appears low. Considering that he has no prior convictions for similar offenses and other sentencing factors, a fine does not seem unjust." This was the reason for dismissing the prosecutor's appeal.
