[Financial News] Musical theater actor Cho Kyu-hyun, formerly a singer, and Kim Sung-cheol, who has appeared on both screen and television, will officially join the musical 'Death Note.'
According to OD Company on the 18th, Cho Kyu-hyun will join as the new face for the role of Light Yagami, while Kim Sung-cheol will return as L, a role he played in the previous season.
Based on the Japanese manga of the same name, the musical 'Death Note' depicts the intense battle of wits between Light Yagami, a genius high school student who acquires the Shinigami's notebook and seeks to rid society of evil, and L, the brilliant detective who pursues him.
Cho Kyu-hyun will newly take on the role of Light Yagami, a genius with extraordinary intellect who happens to pick up the 'Death Note' and attempts to realize justice by punishing criminals. He has been recognized for his outstanding vocal ability, stable acting, and stage charisma in notable productions such as 'The Man Who Laughs,' 'Frankenstein,' 'Phantom,' and 'Werther.' Recently, he also appeared in the musical film 'Frankenstein.' His unique intellectual and delicate expressiveness is expected to harmonize well with the complex inner world and cool-headed intelligence of Light Yagami.
Kim Sung-cheol drew attention as the unrivaled L in the previous season. Earlier this year, he solidified his status as a next-generation musical star through his dual role as Jekyll/Hyde in the musical 'Jekyll & Hyde.'
Kim Sung-cheol will make his debut on January 6 next year, while Cho Kyu-hyun will take the stage for the first time on January 27.
Meanwhile, 'Death Note' will be performed at the D-CUBE Link Arts Center in Guro-gu, Seoul, until May 10 next year.
