[Financial News] On the 18th, the Office of the President of South Korea refuted the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s criticism that the US-ROK Joint Fact Sheet and the 56th Security Consultative Meeting (SCM) joint statement were a "declaration of hostile confrontation," stating, "Our government has no intention of hostile confrontation toward the North."
Kang Yu-jeong, spokesperson for the Office of the President of South Korea, stated, "The government will continue to make consistent efforts to ease tensions and restore trust between the two Koreas."
She further emphasized, "Security cooperation between South Korea and the United States is aimed at strengthening security and safeguarding national interests," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure the ROK-US Alliance continues to contribute to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the region."
This statement was issued in response to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA)'s claim that "the confrontational intentions of the US and South Korea have once again been formalized and institutionalized," and that "we will take more justifiable and realistic measures to protect our state's sovereignty and security interests."
