[Financial News] Chung Yong-jin, Chairman of Shinsegae, recently met with Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of former U.S. President Donald Trump, in Spain.
According to industry sources on the 17th, Chung recently met with Donald Trump Jr. and Omeed Malik, co-founder of the venture investment firm 1789 Capital, at an undisclosed location in Spain.
Chung has long drawn attention for his close ties with the Trump family. He and Donald Trump Jr. first met at a media event in 2010 and reportedly grew closer over their shared Protestant faith and beliefs.
Their relationship garnered renewed interest after Donald Trump won last year’s U.S. presidential election. In December, Chung became the first figure from Korea’s political and business sectors to meet with Donald Trump at The Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida, after being invited by Donald Trump Jr. He also attended Trump’s inauguration in January.
Subsequently, Chung helped arrange Donald Trump Jr.’s visit to Korea, facilitating meetings with leaders of major Korean conglomerates.
Chung’s connection with Omeed Malik has extended to the Rockbridge Network, which is known as an influential group behind the scenes in the Trump administration. The Rockbridge Network was founded in 2019 by Vice President JD Vance and conservative columnist Christopher Buskirk as a donor organization. The group provided strong support for Trump’s candidacy in last year’s election and is said to include several key figures from the current U.S. administration.
In June, there was speculation that Chung would be appointed as the Asia regional chairman of the Rockbridge Network.
Chung was also the only Asian invitee to attend the opening ceremony of the Washington social club 'Executive Branch,' which was co-founded by Donald Trump Jr. and Omeed Malik. It is reported that the club has a membership fee exceeding $500,000 and requires a recommendation or personal connection with the management for entry.
