[Financial News] Broadcaster Shin Dong-yup spoke about the 'Kang Ho-dong actress rumor' that spread by word of mouth before the internet era, sharing the impact it had at the time.
On the 119th episode of the YouTube channel 'Zzanbro,' released on the 17th, Shin Dong-yup and singer Jeon In-kwon discussed the 'word-of-mouth culture' that prevailed in the entertainment industry during the 1980s and 1990s.
Shin Dong-yup remarked, "Back then, there was no internet, so there was no way to verify the truth. That made rumors passed from person to person even more frightening."
He added, "(Especially) there were far too many strange rumors about Ho-dong. Even though they weren't true, people accepted them as fact simply because of Kang Ho-dong's image."
He specifically mentioned a rumor involving an actress, saying, "The actress in question had never even met Kang Ho-dong, but wherever she went, she faced suspicious looks and speculation, which made things very difficult for her."
He also shared an anecdote from the filming of the once-popular variety show 'Metal Tray Karaoke Room,' where he cautiously brought up the rumor to the actress.
Shin Dong-yup explained, "When I asked if she was aware of the absurd rumor, she replied, 'It's driving me crazy. It's so unfair,' describing her distress at the time."
He reflected, "That era was a mix of romance and brutality. Unverified stories would spread instantly, and people would get hurt for no reason. Even now, thinking about it pains me."
