On the 17th, at the sentencing hearing, Judge Kim Jin-seong of the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 6 handed Mr. Park (20), who was indicted on charges of special trespassing and obstruction of official duties, a one-year prison sentence suspended for three years, along with 200 hours of community service.
Earlier this year, during the disturbance at the Seoul Western District Court, Mr. Park unlawfully entered the court premises, climbed through a broken window of the duty office, and made his way to the civil service office on the second floor. He was accused of throwing a rubber cone found on the floor at police officers twice, hitting them.
During a previous hearing, the defense argued, "At the time, he was a young candidate preparing for the CSAT after retaking the exam," and added, "He deeply regrets his actions and intends to develop sound judgment as a future university student." The prosecution requested a two-year prison sentence.
The sentencing was originally scheduled for the 27th of last month, but was postponed to this date because Mr. Park is set to take the 2026 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT).
The court explained its sentencing, stating, "While a prison sentence is often imposed for obstruction of official duties, in this case, the act was limited to a minor assault as the rubber cone was thrown in a parabolic trajectory."
The court further noted, "Although the crime stemmed from an obsession with interpreting the issuance of judicial warrants as a political conspiracy and the need for immediate retribution, consideration was given to the defendant’s sincere remorse, the impulsive nature of the crime, and the fact that it was a first offense."
