[Financial News] Joohoon Kim, an integrated program student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), under the supervision of Professor Junsuk Rho, has been named to this year’s list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists. This marks the first time a Korean graduate student has been included in this prestigious list.
According to POSTECH on the 14th, the World’s Top 2% Scientists list is compiled by professors at Stanford University, who analyze Scopus data provided by the global academic publisher Elsevier. The ranking is based on six key indicators, including total citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, and citation counts for single-author and corresponding-author papers. The list is highly regarded and is referenced in QS World University Rankings (QS Rankings), Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE World University Rankings), Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) national competitiveness analyses, and National Science Foundation (NSF) research performance metrics.
The list is published annually under two categories: 'career' and 'single year.' This year, POSTECH had 98 researchers named for their career achievements and 91 for single-year performance.
Joohoon Kim has gained recognition in academia for developing mass production technology for Metasurfaces based on Nanoimprint Lithography (NIL). Together with Professor Junsuk Rho, he succeeded in the mass production of Metasurfaces operating in the visible spectrum. This research has been cited over 200 times within two years of publication and is considered a key foundational technology for the commercialization of next-generation Metasurfaces. In addition, Kim has increased his global profile by publishing as a lead author in journals such as Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, and Nature Food.
Joohoon Kim remarked, “This recognition is not only a personal honor but also a testament to the world-class research capabilities of our lab and POSTECH. I am deeply honored. I will continue my research so that Metasurfaces can bring tangible value to society and industry.”
