Rumors are spreading about the death of Kris Wu (35), a former member of Exo who is currently serving a prison sentence for sexually assaulting a minor.
On the 13th (local time), Taiwan's Sanli News Network reported that rumors of Kris Wu's death have been circulating on Chinese social media platforms based on several testimonies posted online.
According to the report, a man who introduced himself as a fellow inmate of Kris Wu wrote on Weibo, 'It is true that Kris Wu has died,' and added, 'A few days ago, prison guards were secretly talking, and then Kris Wu suddenly died.' He also claimed, 'There are rumors that he was gang-raped, and that he was killed for failing to satisfy the local (prison) warden.'
Another individual alleged that Kris Wu 'died after a prolonged hunger strike.'
Rumors of Kris Wu's death also surfaced in March. The Canadian government confirmed that four Canadian nationals had been executed in China this year, leading to speculation that Kris Wu, who holds Canadian citizenship, might be among them. However, it was reported that the four executed individuals were convicted of drug trafficking.
As of now, the exact status of Kris Wu's death remains unconfirmed. Unverified claims are rapidly spreading online, but there has been no official announcement.
Previously, Kris Wu debuted in 2012 as a member of the popular boy group Exo in South Korea. In 2014, he filed a lawsuit to invalidate his exclusive contract and left the group. He later gained significant popularity in China under the name Kris Wu.
However, in December 2020, he was accused of sexually assaulting three women, including an incident involving an intoxicated woman at his home. Chinese influencer Meizhu also revealed that she was raped by Kris Wu when she was 17.
In 2022, Kris Wu was indicted on charges of rape and group licentiousness and was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
