On the 11th, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that the incident occurred last weekend at a branch of Juice Coffee, Malaysia’s largest coffee franchise. A Chinese customer, dissatisfied with the slow service, argued with an employee, leading both to throw coffee and cups at each other.
The altercation was captured in a 14-second video, apparently filmed by the Chinese customer, and quickly spread across social networking services (SNS). In the footage, the customer complains about the slow service, while the employee repeatedly gestures and tells the customer to leave in Chinese.
Angered, the Chinese customer threw a paper cup filled with hot coffee. As the coffee splashed, the employee, also upset, picked up the thrown cup and hurled it back at the customer.
Reports indicate that the argument continued after the video ended. As the video went viral and the controversy grew, Juice Coffee issued an official statement saying, "We are currently conducting an internal investigation and are considering necessary measures to ensure the safety of the affected employee.
" The company added, "While we always strive to provide the best customer service, the safety of our staff must also be protected. " The specific details of the conversation inside the store have not been disclosed.
However, Juice Coffee stated, "We will promptly and transparently reveal all the facts once they are confirmed.
