[Financial News] An elementary school teacher in Scotland is under investigation by the local city council after telling students during class that "Santa Claus isn't real."
On the 13th, Yonhap News TV, citing Scottish Television (STV), reported on an incident that occurred late last month in a sixth-grade class at an elementary school in Aberdeen, Scotland.
The topic of the class that day was All Saints' Day, a day celebrated in Christianity and other religions to honor all saints.
When a question about Saint Nicholas arose during the lesson, the teacher explained, "Santa Claus is a character based on Saint Nicholas, but he does not actually exist."
Some students were shocked by the teacher's words, as they learned that Santa Claus is not a real person.
After hearing about the incident from their children, several parents strongly protested as a group and demanded disciplinary action against the teacher.
One parent commented, "This is not a topic that should be addressed at school. Each family has its own views," adding, "With Christmas just around the corner, the magical imagination of the children has been ruined."
Another parent noted, "It was probably a mistake, but the children must have been very disappointed."
On the other hand, some parents defended the teacher, saying, "At this age, isn't it reasonable for children to know the truth about Santa Claus?" and "In the era of social networking service (SNS), kids already know everything. It's becoming harder and harder to keep it a secret."
As the controversy grew, Aberdeen City Council eventually launched a direct investigation.
A spokesperson for the city council stated, "We are currently investigating this matter," and added, "Depending on the outcome, we plan to establish guidelines for staff on how to handle sensitive topics."
