According to The Financial News, President Lee Jae-myung stated at the 15th Senior Presidential Aides Meeting held at the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea on the 13th, "The most urgent task facing Korea is to reverse the declining potential growth rate that drops with every change of government. Bold structural reforms are more necessary than ever."
President Lee compared the situation to how good nutrition cannot improve health if arteries are clogged, emphasizing that leaving societal problems unaddressed renders any policy ineffective. He acknowledged that structural reform is difficult, often painful, and faces resistance, but stressed the need to overcome these challenges.
He further noted, "With the spark of economic recovery now ignited, this is the right moment for structural reform. Through regulatory reform in six key areas—regulation, finance, public, pension, education, and labor—we must revive the potential growth rate and open a new path for development."
He also urged, "The government must thoroughly prepare and move swiftly so that next year can mark the true starting point for Korea’s national transformation through structural reform."
Additionally, President Lee addressed his aides, saying, "We are the ones responsible for turning this situation around. The time you spend working at the Office of the President—whether long or short—will be recorded as a significant moment in history, so I ask you to carry a strong sense of responsibility."
