Before appearing for questioning, Shin claimed, “The police are conducting a superficial investigation by limiting the Seoul Western District Court Incident to the events of January 18–19.” He argued, “The real issue lies in the overnight rallies held from the 15th to the 17th,” and insisted that both the participants and any violence during those nights should be thoroughly investigated.
Shin also objected to the charges against him, stating, “These charges have never been applied even to Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) rallies.” He further argued, “Terms like ‘gaslighting’ are being used without evidence.” Shin emphasized, “Since communication records are kept for only one year, evidence will disappear after January 18, 2026. It is urgent to investigate participants and secure records from the rallies held from the 15th to the 17th.”
Shin stated that he voluntarily submitted his mobile phone and computer, emphasizing his cooperation with the investigation. He also pointed out, “Investigations have not yet covered YouTubers and community operators who led the three-day rallies,” and stressed the need to check for any evidence of deletion.
Police are currently investigating Shin, Jeon Kwang-hoon, pastor of Sarang Jeil Church, and five others in connection with the Seoul Western District Court Riot Incident. Authorities are also coordinating the schedule to summon Pastor Jeon for questioning.
