[Financial News] On the 12th (local time), Webtoon Entertainment, the US headquarters of WEBTOON, announced plans to develop an animation project in collaboration with Warner Bros. Animation.
The two sides are set to sign an agreement to jointly produce ten webtoon-based animations aimed at global distribution. Warner Bros. Animation is a studio within the Warner Bros. Discovery group responsible for producing and distributing animated content.
Through this collaboration, Webtoon Entertainment’s animation pipeline will be significantly expanded. The selected webtoons will be chosen from those serialized on WEBTOON’s Korean and English platforms. Webtoon Production, which oversees Webtoon Entertainment’s global IP business, and the Japan IP Business Team will jointly support the project.
Two Korean original webtoons, 'The Stellar Swordmaster' and two English originals, including 'Down to Earth' and 'Elf & Warrior,' have been selected for the project. Additional titles will be announced in the future.
Yongsoo Kim, Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of WEBTOON and Head of Global Webtoon Business, stated, “Webtoons have become one of the most exciting sources of original storytelling in the entertainment industry, and creators continue to produce stories beloved by Gen Z. We are very excited to have the opportunity to collaborate on outstanding webtoon-based projects with Warner Bros. Animation, one of the most respected companies in the animation industry.”
Kim Shin-bae, Chief Growth Officer (CGO) of LINE Digital Frontier, commented, “It is very meaningful that, in addition to the Japanese animation production pipeline being developed by LINE Digital Frontier for WEBTOON’s Japanese business, this collaboration will add animation projects targeting the global market. In Japan, we will actively support the production process, including the discovery of IPs more suitable for the global market.”
Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, said, “The combination of Warner Bros. Animation’s world-class artistry and WEBTOON’s dynamic storytelling is expected to produce something truly special, and I look forward to starting the project soon.”
