On the morning of the 11th, Oh met with reporters on his way to the CIO office at the Government Complex Gwacheon. He stated, "The handling of the perjury accusation against the CIO chief prosecutor was not about covering up for insiders, but rather a process of turning against insiders and restructuring the organization, even at the risk of criticism."
Oh faces allegations that he attempted to conceal and failed to properly investigate the perjury case involving former CIO chief prosecutor Song Changjin at a National Assembly of the Republic of Korea hearing, after the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) filed a complaint. On the 1st, Oh appeared before the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Team as a suspect for questioning.
He explained, "The CIO chief and deputy chief assigned the perjury case, which was reported to the CIO by the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea around August 19 last year, to the department of the only chief prosecutor who had no conflict of interest with the case at that time. The chief prosecutor who received the case did not delegate it to another prosecutor but handled it personally, quickly preparing a review report within a few days and submitting it to the deputy chief. However, neither the chief nor the deputy chief approved or took any action based on this report."
Oh added, "Shortly after submitting the report, the chief prosecutor in charge of the case resigned. Until the case was transferred to the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Team, we made every effort to handle the perjury accusation in accordance with due process and in an amicable manner. It has now been clearly established that there was no neglect of duty."
Oh also addressed the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Team, stating, "While it is possible to investigate the CIO chief and deputy chief if necessary, I believe the investigation has now concluded and the facts of the case have been clarified. I expect the matter to be handled rationally and reasonably, and I believe that accurately identifying the facts in this case will also serve the interests of the special prosecutor team investigating the death of the Marine."
