[Financial News] Holders of Korean driver’s licenses will now be able to obtain a driver’s license in the State of Kansas, USA.
The Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) announced on the 11th that it has signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement on Driver's Licenses with the State of Kansas.
Under this agreement, individuals holding a valid Korean driver’s license can acquire a Kansas driver’s license without additional testing. This applies to those who are legally residing in the United States and living in Kansas. Holders of a Class 1 Large, Special, and Regular Driver's License or a Class 2 Regular Driver's License will be issued a local license equivalent to Korea’s Class 2 Regular Driver's License. The agreement will take effect seven days after signing, making licenses available from the 18th.
Foreign nationals who are legally residing in Korea, have completed foreigner registration, and possess a Kansas driver’s license can also obtain a Class 2 Regular Driver's License in Korea without written or practical exams.
Since 2023, the KNPA has been working together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chicago to request and negotiate the agreement with Kansas in order to support overseas Koreans. Previously, Korea had signed Mutual Recognition Agreements on Driver's Licenses with 28 U.S. states.
Jaesung Yoo, Acting Commissioner of the KNPA, stated, "We expect that this agreement will enhance convenience for Korean business representatives in the State of Kansas and contribute to strengthening friendly relations between the two countries."
