There is growing speculation that the release of the 'fact sheet' detailing the specifics of the South Korea–United States summit may be postponed by another week. As Foreign Minister Cho Hyun is traveling abroad throughout this week, the final disclosure of the fact sheet could be further delayed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received the fact sheet content from the U.S. government and has been sharing it with the Office of the President of South Korea and relevant ministries.
Minister Cho will attend a two-night, three-day trip to the Kingdom of Cambodia from the 9th to the 11th, followed by the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Canada from the 11th to the 14th. With Minister Cho absent from the country this week, coordination work regarding the South Korea–United States summit fact sheet is inevitably affected.
The trip to the Kingdom of Cambodia is part of follow-up measures to address employment scams and abduction cases involving South Korean citizens. On the 10th (local time), Minister Cho met with Prime Minister Hun Manet in Phnom Penh to discuss cooperation in tackling online fraud crimes.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Antonio Rubio is also expected to attend the upcoming G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Canada. Should the foreign ministers of South Korea and the United States meet, it could naturally lead to important discussions regarding the fact sheet.
Although South Korea is not a G7 member, it is participating in the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting at the invitation of Canada, the chair country, following its attendance at the G7 Summit in June and the G7 Energy and Environment Ministers' Meeting in October. The G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting will address key global economic issues.
While the trade aspects of the South Korea–United States summit fact sheet have been nearly finalized, it is reported that discussions are still ongoing among U.S. government agencies regarding approval for the construction of a nuclear-powered submarine in South Korea. Minister Cho stated at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea on the 6th, "We have received a message from the U.S. side asking us to wait a little longer for the announcement of the fact sheet."
