[Financial News] The Prosecution Service has sought heavy sentences for two South Korean nationals who were members of the Thailand-based criminal group 'Lungger Company,' which originated in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
On the 10th, during a trial at the Seoul Southern District Court presided over by Chief Judge Kim Jung-gon, the Prosecution Service requested a 30-year prison sentence for Mr. A (43) on charges of joining and participating in a criminal organization. For Mr. B, who faced the same charges, prosecutors requested a 30-year sentence and a forfeiture of 12 million won.
The Prosecution Service stated, "Although the defendants claim they were coerced or threatened, it appears they lived a luxurious lifestyle in Thailand, including at locations with swimming pools." The prosecution emphasized, "They directly participated in voice phishing operations as members of the organization and defrauded a large number of victims out of significant sums of money."
Mr. A and Mr. B were indicted on charges of joining 'Lungger Company,' a newly formed criminal group established by individuals from the Kingdom of Cambodia border region who relocated their base to Thailand, between January and April.
They reportedly worked as team members in units such as the 'Lotto Compensation Coin Fraud Team.' Mr. A is accused of defrauding 6.6 billion won from 206 victims, while Mr. B allegedly stole 15 billion won from 691 victims. In May, they also disrupted restaurant operations by deceiving establishments into exhausting their food supplies under the pretense of paying for meals.
In his final statement, Mr. A said, "I graduated from the Department of Police Administration at university, once studied in Noryangjin to become a police officer, got married, and have a daughter. However, I made a mistake after incurring large gambling debts."
Mr. B also stated, "Due to my wrongful and complacent thinking, I caused harm to the victims and their families. I have deeply reflected on my actions during three months in a detention center in Thailand and two months at the Seoul Southern Detention Center."
The sentencing for these individuals is scheduled for 10 a.m. on the 12th of next month.
