[Financial News] Yoon Suk Yeol, who stands at the center of various allegations including interference in the Chae Sang-byeong investigation, will appear for the first time before the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Team (headed by Lee Myeong-hyeon) at 10 a.m. on the 11th. As Yoon plans to use an underground passage, it is unlikely that the media will capture him at the photo line.
On the afternoon of the 10th, the Special Prosecutor Team led by Lee Myeong-hyeon announced this to the press. Previously, the team had summoned Yoon as a suspect twice—on October 25 and again on the 8th of this month—but he did not appear, citing his legal team's circumstances and court schedules. With discussions of a possible arrest warrant if he failed to comply with a third summons, Yoon has now decided to appear for the first time.
Yoon is under investigation as a suspect for abuse of power and aiding the escape of a criminal. He is alleged to be the person behind the so-called 'VIP outrage,' which marked the beginning of the Chae Sang-byeong investigation interference scandal. He is also suspected of exerting improper influence on the Office of the President of South Korea and the Ministry of National Defense (MND) to exclude Im Seong-geun, former commander of the 1st Marine Division, from the list of suspects.
Additionally, Yoon faces allegations of appointing Lee Jong-sup, who was under a travel ban and investigation by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), as Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Australia to facilitate his escape. The Special Prosecutor Team plans to question Yoon sequentially about the investigation interference and the escape allegations involving the former minister.
