Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station announced that from 10 a.m. on the 10th, it has been questioning Kim Soon Hwan, Secretary-General of the Committee for the Protection of Ordinary People's Livelihood, who accused Chairperson Choi of fraud, abuse of authority, coercion, bribery, and violations of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act.
Previously, on the 29th of last month, the Committee for the Protection of Ordinary People's Livelihood filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) against Chairperson Choi, alleging fraud, abuse of authority, and violations of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act. Chairperson Choi became embroiled in controversy for accepting congratulatory money from audited agencies at her daughter's wedding held at the National Assembly during the audit period.
In the complaint, the Committee for the Protection of Ordinary People's Livelihood argued, "If, during the audit, a wedding was held at the Sarangjae Hall of the National Assembly and congratulatory money and wreaths were received from audited agencies, placing a significant burden on them, this constitutes fraud," and further claimed, "There is a direct conflict of interest, amounting to coercion."
They continued, "Chairperson Choi abused her position as committee chair, and by including account numbers and card payment links in the mobile wedding invitation, she inflicted additional psychological distress on the audited agencies. This undermines the purpose of the audit and could become a touchstone that erodes trust in liberal democracy and the rule of law."
With the police continuing to question complainants regarding the controversy over congratulatory money at Chairperson Choi's daughter's wedding, a full-scale investigation appears to be underway.
On the afternoon of the 7th, Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station summoned Kim Se-ui, operator of the conservative YouTube channel Hoverlab, who accused Chairperson Choi of violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act and abuse of authority, for questioning. It is also reported that on the 11th, a representative from the People Power Party's Media and Legal Affairs Group will be summoned for further questioning.
