[Financial News] Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) has unveiled a smart parking solution incorporating robotic technology, aiming to alleviate urban parking shortages and enhance space utilization.
Hyundai E&C announced on the 10th that it signed an MOU for joint development and business expansion of a robotic parking solution with Hyundai WIA Corporation at the Uiwang R&D Center in Gyeonggi Province on the 7th. The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Jae-young, Head of the Technology Research Institute at Hyundai E&C, Baek Ik-jin, Executive Director of the Mobility Solutions Division at Hyundai WIA Corporation, and other representatives from both companies.
This agreement was pursued as a technological solution to address parking shortages and inefficient use of underground spaces caused by urban densification. The two companies plan to develop an AI Robot-Based Parking System and apply it to various spaces, including residential complexes and commercial facilities, with the goal of increasing parking efficiency by 30% and maximizing urban space utilization.
Hyundai E&C's robotic parking solution is a fully unmanned valet system that automatically transports and parks vehicles without driver intervention. When users leave their cars at a designated pickup zone, a robot enters beneath the vehicle, lifts the wheels, and moves and aligns the car to the optimal position. By combining sensor-based control technology with an app-based operating system, the solution enables safe and precise parking even in tight spaces, and can be implemented in conventional parking lots without the need for additional structures.
In response to the recent amendment by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) allowing the installation of 'unmanned valet parking devices' in residential complexes, Hyundai E&C plans to expand the application of its robotic parking system to reconstruction and redevelopment projects, as well as its new business initiative, THE NEW HOUSE, starting next year.
A Hyundai E&C representative stated, "Robotic parking is an innovative solution to the worsening urban parking crisis and is being institutionalized as a space solution. We will continue to enhance customer convenience based on robotic technology and realize smart residential and building environments."
Meanwhile, Hyundai E&C is currently developing the nation's first Robot-Friendly Residential Complex in Apgujeong District 2. The company plans to evolve this into a group-level smart city model by applying a Physical AI Platform, including unmanned shuttles, valet robots, and personal mobility devices.
