South Jeolla Province revealed on the 9th that nine locations were chosen for the 2026 Fishing Village Revitalization Project led by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), securing a total project budget of 89.8 billion KRW, including 62.9 billion KRW in national funding. This will enable the province to expand living and safety infrastructure in fishing villages and improve residential conditions.
Notably, these nine sites account for about 26% of the 34 locations selected nationwide, once again demonstrating South Jeolla Province’s strong capacity to implement marine policies.
According to South Jeolla Province, the selected locations are Dupo Port, Yeosu; Daedae Port, Suncheon; Namyeol Port, Goheung; Suin Port, Gangjin; Haenam Hakga Port; Dowon Port; Wolgok Port, Yeonggwang; Geumil Gateway Area, Wando; and Sangtaedo Port, Shinan.
Each area is expected to receive up to 10 billion KRW in project funding. South Jeolla Province aims to improve residential conditions in fishing villages and accelerate local economic revitalization by expanding essential living and safety infrastructure and services.
Previously, from 2023 to 2025, a total of 35 sites in the province were selected for the project, attracting a combined budget of 324.1 billion KRW. Analysts attribute these consistent achievements to the province’s strategy of encouraging active resident participation from the initial planning stages and tailoring strategies to local needs.
Including the nine newly selected sites, South Jeolla Province plans to systematically advance the project moving forward.
Bak Yeongchae, Director of Oceans and Fisheries for South Jeolla Province, stated, "Through the selected Fishing Village Revitalization Projects, we will expand living and safety infrastructure in underdeveloped fishing villages and improve their residential conditions. We are committed to implementing the project thoroughly to enhance the quality of life for fishers and invigorate fishing communities in South Jeolla Province."
